At Jan & Elly, your child won’t be jumping straight into any class. We want to make sure your child starts on the right foot, at a pace that matches his or her abilities. So when you start your journey with us, you will get a one-on-one personal assessment with one of our team members, who will do a progressive test to find out where exactly your child’s strengths and weaknesses lie. From there, we will then be able to make some personalised recommendations and suggest the most appropriate level for your child.

Who is it for?

Our Phonics Reading Assessments are designed for children between the ages of 4 – 6, who are interested in enrolling for our phonics programme. The assessment serves as a mandatory entry tool into our programme as we place high importance in ensuring your child starts off at the right level.

What does it test?

The assessments help us identify your child’s strengths and weaknesses in reading. Through the interaction and your child’s performance, our teachers will gain a better understanding of the child’s handwriting skills, letter recognition and blending proficiency, as well as overall attention span.

We’ve come to realise that through these assessments, our team has been able to place students in the programmes most suitable to their learning abilities, thus empowering them with confidence to excel.

All assessments are available via booking only. Please call into a branch of your choice, or send in a request.

We offer trial classes at both the phonics and primary level. We understand it can be hard to make a decision sometimes as each child learns and adapts differently. If you are afraid of committing for a full term, just pay for a single class and try it out! Let your child mingle with his or her potential classmates and teachers, dive into our curriculum and way of learning, then decide for yourself. Just give us a call or send in a request, and we’ll book you into the class of your choice*. You can even speak to our teachers after and get their feedback on how your child fared in class!

*Primary level classes have the option of our English Made Possible or Creative Writing & Composition classes.
